Bio

Michael Casey is Professor of Music and director of the graduate program in Digital Musics at Dartmouth College. He has received international prizes for his music compositions from GMEB, Bourges, and the Newcomp foundation. He received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Laboratory in 1998 and has since authored numerous articles in the fields of music information retrieval, statistical audio analysis/synthesis, and audio-visual signal processing.

"I am interested in content-based search and analysis of digital media and applying these strategies as compositional processes. I write software systems that perform analysis and search on large collections. I use these systems to create new musical works out of extant audio-visual material and to discover new deep structure and patterns in music."
